![]() It took me like 4 hours to get it working right, but I learned a lot about how the sync works along the way, and don't have any issues with it now. Syncing in general (once it works) is amazing. If you archive a book, and then unarchive it in calibre-web to re-sync the book to the kobo, it'll remember exactly where you left off. The Calibre Web Sync keeps track of your progress % in each book you open. The grouping of series, authors, and collections mixed with all the different library filters you can apply are marvelous for organization.Calibre-Web has also been touting the ability to Sync to Kobos, so that covered the second point (assuming it worked well), and then the next two were just part of the Kobo Ecosystem in general, so I knew Id be getting those along with it. I have a robust and meticulously organized Calibre library, and host my own server at home with lots of books served via Calibre Web, so right away that covered the first spot on the list. Better Organization of files on the device, since Kindles just lump them all together into a mess (unless youve bought them from amazon). With the recent 'meddling' of Amazon to close off kindles more to be limited to their ecosystem and create exclusive features for Purchased vs Sideloaded content, I figured it was time to test this out and see if I really did prefer what it can offer someone who want's to get the most out of their devices.Ĭoming into this, I had a few specific things that I wanted out of the 'move' to Kobo: As I consider myself a 'power user'/tinkerer of most tech, this was always the main draw to me – well, that combined with Calibre-Web sync. Ive been eyeing a Kobo for a few years now (Ive even posted here 14 months ago about it) as I found it to be a lot more open and 'tinkerable' than a Kindle. If you just want an easy reading experience and pay for every book while forgetting libraries exist, get a Kindle (unless you don't want to support amazon.
